How much does the D-18 weigh?
The average weight for about 10 or so 1935-1941 D-18’s is 3.99 pounds. My Kimsey-modified 1972 D-18 weighs 4.05 pounds. I have a few miscellaneous modern mahogany weights, but no “plain” D-18’s after the early 1970’s.
Do Martin guitars use nitrocellulose finish?
All modern Martin’s have a nitrocellulose finish, shellac hasn’t been used since the early 1920’s. Not sure how Martin does it, but a flattening agent can be added to gloss lacquer to make it satin. martin uses a product called chem sheen , it is a satin finished lacquer.
Is Om bigger than ooo?
The bodies are the same size and shape, but the neck width and scale length differ. Put simply, the OM guitars have a slightly longer scale length (25.4”) and a wider neck (1 ¾”) than the 000, which traditionally has a smaller 24.9” scale length and a 1 11/16th” fingerboard width.
