How does a Fuzz Face circuit work?

Posted on 09/01/2020 by Emilia Duggan

How does a Fuzz Face circuit work?

The fuzz face works by inputting signal through a DC blocking resistor driving a transistor one, transistor two is directly coupled with transistor one. This is called a “voltage biasing circuit”.

What is a fuzz circuit?

The Fuzz Face Circuit. The circuit is a simple 2 stage amplifier with a feedback network path. It can be broken down into three parts: Input Stage, Output Stage and Feedback Network.

What transistor is in a Fuzz Face?

The original Fuzz Face uses germanium PNP transistors (AC128 or NKT275); You should use a low gain for Q1 (β=70-80) and a high gain for Q2 (β=110-130). Germanium transistors tend to have leakage current and a varying gain value.

Who uses a Fuzz Face?

The Fuzz Face’s continuing popularity and status as a classic may be explained by its many famous users, which include Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughan Pete Townshend, Eric Johnson and George Harrison. The Fuzz Face has a low input impedance and thus is very sensitive to the guitar pickup.

Who used fuzz?

The first known musical recording to use the fuzz bass was Marty Robbins’s 1961 song “Don’t Worry”. Paul McCartney, in one of the earliest uses of the fuzz bass, played the guitar on the 1965 Beatles song “Think for Yourself” from their album Rubber Soul.

What is a silicon fuzz?

Hot Silicon Fuzz (HSF) is the same Hot Silicon previously available as a FuzzCard for Captain Coconut 2. HSF uses a pair of high-gain BC109C silicon transistors, just like many of the original silicon FuzzFaces, and all of the Crest Audio reissues from the late ’80s.

How many transistors does a Fuzz Face have?

two transistors
It only has two transistors, and that simplicity lends itself to making very good sounds without a lot of hassle. The Fuzz Face is the best circuit for you if you want a sustained, mellow, approachable, predictable-in-a-good-way sort of fuzz. You’ve got a ton of options here on which pedal you can use.

What pedals work well with fuzz?

  • Dunlop FFM3 Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini.
  • Joyo JF-12 Voodoo Octava.
  • EHX Big Muff Pi Nano.

Can You daisy chain Fuzz Face PNP germanium transistor?

Fuzz Face PNP Germanium Transistor With Charge Pump Version. The addition of a charge pump on the input power, gives you the ability to daisy chain power to your PNP Positive ground pedal with all your other negative ground pedals! Eliminate any need for special considerations when powering your Fuzz Face with the other pedals on your pedal board.

What is late 60’s NPN Fuzz Face version?
