THE ROUTINES By reducing demand feeding after two weeks it ensures that the baby does not get in a habit of snacking. The routines in the book are designed around how much total sleep a baby needs per day, how long they can stay awake between sleeps and how often they need to be fed.

Why is having a sleep routine important?
Keeping a regular sleep schedule—even on weekends—maintains the timing of the body’s internal clock and can help you fall asleep and wake up more easily. Even if real life stands in the way of achieving the perfect sleep routine, making just a few small changes can improve your sleep dramatically.

When should I start a sleep schedule?
When your baby is about 2 months old, her internal clock will be a bit more predictable — and you may be able to start implementing a basic newborn sleep schedule. Between 3 and 6 months, your baby’s bedtime, naptime and wake-up times will increasingly fall at around the same times each day.
When should I Ferberize my baby?
When should you start the Ferber method on your baby? Babies are generally ready for sleep training, including methods like Ferber, around 5 or 6 months. At that point, they’re developmentally capable of self-soothing. They’re also old enough to sleep through the night without eating.
