Is Howletts or Port Lympne better?
Howletts is the smaller and flatter of the parks at 90 acres and is therefore more accessible. Port Lympne lies in 600 acres of hilly terrain and as a result is quite steep in places.

Tony Kelly, the managing director of the Aspinall Foundation, assures there are no plans to close either park and they “will continue as normal for the foreseeable future”.

Do you have to wear a mask at Howletts?
At Howletts Wild Animal Park, a fundamental part of our mission is to create incredible experiences for animal-lovers. Gloves and a face mask will be provided and must be worn for the duration of all gorilla, primate and cat encounters, and we encourage masks to be worn for all other encounters and experiences.
What zoo did Aspinall own?

Later that year, with proceeds from his gambling, Aspinall purchased Howletts country house and estate near Canterbury, Kent. He lived in the house and set up a private zoo, Howletts Zoo, in the grounds.
Can you take dogs to Howletts Zoo?
Howletts & Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks reserve the right to refuse admission and to make changes to the event without prior notice. No dogs are permitted within the parks.
Are there still elephants at Howletts?
The elephants are currently located in a 8-acre enclosure at Howletts Wild Animal Park in Kent. The Howletts’ elephant herd is one of the most successful breeding herds of African elephants in Europe.
Do you have to book to go to Howletts zoo?
Booking your tickets online in advance is the fastest and simplest way to begin your visit. Please note: Carer tickets can be purchased at the Gatehouse. All other tickets must be pre-booked in advance. Did you know that we are a charity and that your admission helps us to save rare and endangered animals!
Do you have to wear a mask at the zoo UK?
To keep the animals in our walkthrough exhibits as safe as possible (the areas where visitors share the same space as our animals) we will be asking all visitors aged over 11yrs without exemptions to wear facemasks.
Are there Cheetahs at Howletts?
In February 2020, The Aspinall Foundation became the first organisation to ever rewild cheetahs born in the UK. Saba & Nairo, two brothers born at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve and later transferred to Howletts Wild Animal Park, were flown 6,000 miles to Ashia Cheetah Sanctuary in South Africa’s Western Cape.
